Pelindaba Lavender Featured in Yachting Magazine

Pelindaba Lavender Featured in Yachting Magazine
Cruisers, sailors and boat enthusiasts, check this out! Yachting Magazine’s March issue features our Organic Lavender Hydrosol as a great multi-purpose cleaner for all on-board chores.
They are right!

Our organically certified 100% pure Lavender Hydrosol is produced on our San Juan Island Farm during the steam distillation of essential lavender oil each year in late-August through September. Also known as floral water, it is an ideal means of bringing the all-natural antiseptic, cleansing and insect repellant properties of lavender essential oil to a wide range of personal care, household care and, in particular, boat care.

Capt. Richard Rodriguez says, “San Juan Island is home to Pelindaba Lavender, a premier grower of lavender plants and seller of handcrafted lavender products. One of its products is Organic Lavender Hydrosol, a virtually universal cleaner that I use on everything, from my iPad screen to the engine, from the galley to the head.”
Capt. Rodriguez goes on to write about making port in Friday Harbor,
San Juan Island and all the many services and things to do.

Insomnia Relief with Lavender

Insomnia Relief with Lavender

Organic Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is one of the most complex naturally-occurring plant oils. Besides its wonderful fragrance, centuries of documented experience along with modern science have established the oil’s many naturally-occurring properties. One of these properties acts as a sedative, or sleep aid.

If you struggle with insomnia or just can’t seem to “turn your mind off” at night we highly recommend applying 1-2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil above the upper lip at bedtime as a soothing, calming sleep inducer.

One of our long-time friends had this to say…
“I suffer from insomnia periodically and have trouble getting to sleep, and sometimes awake in the night and can’t get back to sleep. I bought two bottles of the lavender oil and was a little skeptical that it would work, but decided to give it a try. I have used it several times with wonderful results! [I am] now able to get to sleep in a short time after rubbing a little of the oil under my nose. I am very happy I visited your farm and have become acquainted with the oil. I have used Tylenol P.M. and Ambien, and this oil works better and is natural, not harming my body.” – Joyce

Summer Construction Update

August 31st, 2011

Even as we have welcomed several hundred visitors a day to the Farm during our summer high season, we have been proceeding apace with the completion of the new Operations Building. We are now just waiting for “approval to cover” – meaning that all the internal framing, wiring and plumbing is in place and we are ready to start installing insulation. From here on out the course is much more predictable as we progress through the subsequent back-to-back dry-walling, painting, door and fixture installation.

As with all building projects, it has take a little longer than anticipated, or rather than it should have. However, as can be seen from the photographs, the exterior is essentially complete except for the front deck, and on the inside we can already begin to almost taste what it will be like to work with plenty of elbowroom. We can’t wait, but of course we must. October it is!

Pelindaba Lavender Construction Update

June 16th, 2011

With the final settlement of our fire insurance claim – a two year pitched battle we would wish not even on our worst enemies – we are at long last able to continue with the reconstruction of our Production, Inventory and Administration facilities at the Farm. The walls are all now up, the roof installation continues apace, and windows go in this week.

Unlike the original structure – a three-building complex that grew organically as Pelindaba grew over the past decade – the new facilities have been custom designed to facilitate production flow. Just as important – to us anyway – is that they will be spacious and with room to grow as the retail licensing program expands. We currently anticipate exiting our temporary cramped space in Friday Harbor and reuniting all our operations once more at the Farm at the end of the Summer.

Pelindaba Lavender Wins Best Public Garden 2011

May 11th, 2011

We're Competing badge

We are pleased to announce that for the third year in a row, Pelindaba Lavender Farm has just been voted as “Best Public Garden in Western Washington” in local NBC affiliate King 5/Evening Magazine’s “Best of the Northwest Escapes 2011” contest.

Pelindaba Lavender Farm won this same title as winner of the same contest in 2009 and 2010. Stephen Robins, owner of Pelindaba Lavender, said, “We are delighted to receive this broad public recognition of what we have created here on San Juan Island. Esthetics are a critically important element of the high quality standards we strive to instill in everything we do, and help us attract even greater attention to the value of open space preservation in an increasingly crowded environment. It is particularly gratifying to have this affirmation that these efforts provide as much pleasure for others as they do for us.

“We welcome thousands of visitors each year at the farm. They come to stroll through the blooming fields, picnic, harvest their own bouquets, paint, photograph and browse the hundreds of lavender products we handcraft on-site from our organic flowers and oils.”

Pelindaba Lavender is a 12-year-old San Juan Island open space preservation project that has steadily developed into a nationally prominent vertically integrated farmer of organically certified lavender, and manufacturer and retailer of value-added lavender products handcrafted entirely by island residents. It has also gained wide recognition as a unique model of sustainable community development as well as a highly popular regional agri-tourism destination.
