Our Store at Bellevue Square is Moving!
To Westlake Center in Downtown Seattle
- Opening June 1st -
When we opened the store in Bellevue Square in August 2008, it was part of a short-term retail pilot program to test our conviction that our elegantly designed lavender-based products would appeal to publics well beyond just those who just happened upon them during a visit to our San Juan Island farm and Friday Harbor product gallery.
Our great success in that location, along with a similar presence in Seattle’s City Centre, has fully validated that conviction. We are especially grateful to all who have visited us there, and especially those who have become devotees of not just our products but also members of the rapidly growing Pelindaba community and supporters of what we are all about.
The Westlake Center product gallery will be Pelindaba’s first store to operate under our new retail licensing program. With hands-on experience operating four different bricks-and-mortar retail models – ranging from our farm and small town retail gift stores in Friday Harbor to the two mainland major city retail centers – we are now well-positioned to fully support our growing list of retail licensees, wholesale partners and independent sales representatives.
This partnering with others allows us to focus our creativity and energy more fully on further expanding our line of all-natural lavender product offerings, improving the efficiency of our operations, and solidifying our growing online presence.
In 10 years, Pelindaba Lavender has steadily developed into a nationally prominent vertically integrated farmer of organically certified lavender, and manufacturer and retailer of more than 250 value-added lavender products handcrafted entirely by island residents. It has also gained wide recognition as a unique model of sustainable community development as well as a highly popular regional agri-tourism destination.
Pelindaba Concludes Demonstration Phase
of its OFF-island Retail Strategy
In April and May of 2010, as their respective leases end, the closing of its
Seattle City Centre and Bellevue Square product galleries will mark the successful conclusion of Pelindaba Lavender’s key demonstration project instituted three years ago to validate the viability of its long term off-island retail marketing strategy.

Pelindaba Lavender Farm Rebuilds after Devastating Fire
**** Early Spring Update - 1 March 2010 ****
We continue on course for rebuilding our Production, Inventory and Administrative facilities on the farm. With foundation and concrete floor slab almost completed, we will be raising the walls and roof very shortly. More information on the new building will be forthcoming soon.
Now that our various vacations are over, we are fully refreshed and engaged in planning activities for 2010, including a number of changes and additions that will significantly enhance the visitor experience when the farm opens again for the 2010 season. More information on these changes will also be posted shortly.
**** Winter Update - 1 January 2010 ****
We are on course for rebuilding our Production, Inventory and Administrative facilities on the farm before next summer. The rubble remaining after the 31 May 2009 fire has all been removed. Planning and design for the new building are complete. The Permit Application has been approved and we begun the laying down of the concrete foundation for what will be a significant upgrading of the buildings we lost. We will provide more information on the new building as we near completion.
 
With the extraordinary commitment of the whole Pelindaba group working under very constrained conditions in temporary facilities since the fire, we have nevertheless fully achieved our internal goal of sustaining our venture in such a way as to make the disastrous physical effects of the fire largely invisible to our large following.
We had a bumper harvest, and our new much larger lavender still returned significant dividends, allowing us to complete our essential oil distillation in just a few weeks rather than the traditional several months - even as we constructed a new distillery building around the equipment!
Finally, the stores are fully stocked, we are well advanced on our website redesign project, and the licensing program has been expanded to include a network of individual sales representatives to help bring our unique handcrafted products to an even wider audience.
In short, what has been in more ways than one a very challenging year has set us up for the next phase of operations. But in the meantime, after the holidays, like our plants, we are enjoying a period of rest and recuperation in all other aspects of our lavender operations, emerging again next spring in new facilities, with new fields coming on-stream, and, as always, the addition of several new unique lavender products that have been waiting in the wings.
We are grateful to the many many people who have sent us not just their condolences and good wishes, but also their many other expressions of continuing support for the self-sustaining open space preservation project that remains, as ever, the heart of what Pelindaba Lavender is all about.
