The use of lavender as a favored fragrance in personal care products has a history going back more than two millennia. For many, it is this particular use of lavender that is most familiar, often having been exposed to it by their mother’s or even more so by their grandmother’s fondness for lavender toiletries.
Lavender brings one of the most popular fragrances to many areas of personal care products, from soaps and shampoos to a host of other cosmetic and skin care products. The popularity of lavender personal care products has led many companies to “fake” the scent of lavender in their products by using relatively inexpensive artificial chemical fragrances instead of the much more expensive lavender essential oil.
In so doing, they effectively “cheat” the user of the product, as none of these artificial fragrances have the many additional benefits of true lavender essential oil, in particular the soothing, disinfecting and oil-dissolving natural properties that led to centuries of lavender use in the personal care products of many cultures around the world.
